Pakistan Marks Operation Swift Retort, Reaffirming National Defense and Regional Peace

On February 27, 2019, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) successfully intercepted and shot down two Indian fighter jets that had entered Pakistani airspace. One of the Indian pilots was taken into custody but was later released as a goodwill gesture to promote peace.

A statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted that Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, along with military leadership, reaffirmed their dedication to Pakistan’s security and ongoing efforts for regional stability.

They emphasized that the country’s armed forces remain vigilant and fully prepared to counter any external threats, maintaining the confidence and trust of the nation. The military remains steadfast in defending Pakistan’s sovereignty while also contributing to regional and global peace efforts.

The ISPR described the 2019 response as a firm and calculated measure against unprovoked aggression, showcasing Pakistan’s commitment to protecting its territorial integrity. The operation demonstrated the exceptional readiness of the armed forces, reinforcing their ability to deter threats and maintain strategic dominance.

General Mirza and other military leaders paid tribute to the armed forces for their unwavering bravery, professionalism, and sacrifices.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also acknowledged their courage and dedication, stating that the entire nation takes pride in their service and sacrifices, as reported by Radio Pakistan.
