Pakistan Unveils First Ever Digital ID Card

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) commemorated its 25th anniversary with a ceremony marking its significant contributions to Pakistan’s identity management. Key highlights included the launch of Pakistan’s first dematerialized ID card, a digital version accessible via the Pak ID Mobile Application, eliminating the need for a physical card.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised NADRA’s role in strengthening the state-citizen relationship and advancing public service delivery. They emphasized the importance of leveraging technology for efficiency and inclusivity.
The Prime Minister highlighted NADRA’s global significance and its contributions to data integration and AI.
Federal Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi announced the upcoming implementation of digital verification systems and a pilot project for the fully digital ID, scheduled for August 14, 2025.
The Minister also called attention to NADRA’s wide reach, including services for remote areas and overseas Pakistanis, and its contributions to national security.
Commemorative Events and Historical Reflection:
The State Bank of Pakistan issued a commemorative coin, and Pakistan Post released a special postage stamp to mark the occasion.
NADRA’s founding chairman, Major General (R) Zahid Ehsan, shared insights into the organization’s early days and its rapid development.
A documentary film and a book chronicling NADRA’s 25-year journey were showcased.
Many government officials attended the event.
